This past weekend, at Angliss Reserve on the 31st of August, held the Grand Finals for the Women’s, and Girls Junior competitions. The event was a massive success with five games being played across the day. A huge thank you to Footscray Lacrosse Club for hosting the memorable day of finals.
To start the day off the U14s were up first with Footscray versus Newport. Through a hard-fought game, Newport defeated Footscray 12-9. The skill and determination on display from both teams was spectacular.
Up next was the U17s, with Williamstown versus Footscray. Battling through the rain, Williamstown came out on top to win 13-8. This makes it three consecutive premierships for Williamstown.
Then it was on to the Championship League, with Eltham versus Williamstown. Coming back strong in the second half, Eltham clenched the premiership and claimed it for the third consecutive year.
Following was the State League Reserve, with Williamstown versus Footscray. Battling through a close start, Williamstown came bounding through to defeat Footscray 13-6. This caps off their undefeated season and crowns it with a third consecutive premiership.
To end our day, it was the State League, with Footscray versus Newport. It was a tight game throughout the afternoon, with Footscray coming back from a goal down late to secure the win, 11-10. For the third year in a row, the MVP of the match was Bonnie Yu, playing an incredible game to help Footscray secure the title.
During half-time of the State League game, the U10s played a mini seven-minute Quick Stix match against each other. This was a great opportunity for the kids to get amongst the game and have some fun, as well as showcasing Quick Stix as a whole.
