Pride Round 2025 Wrap Up

On the weekend of June 21st and 22nd, Lacrosse Victoria proudly hosted our annual Pride Round, a celebration of inclusion, education, and community within our sport. With events hosted by the Brunswick, MCC, and Williamstown Women’s Lacrosse Clubs, the weekend was filled with vibrant energy, meaningful conversations, and a strong message of belonging for all participants on and off the field.

Saturday 21st June – Brunswick Lacrosse Club

Brunswick Lacrosse Club hosted an engaging Pride Day event, featuring a series of powerful guest speakers who inspired the crowd and fostered conversation around inclusion in sport.

We were honoured to hear from:

  • Owen Brigstock-Barron from Movember, who works with global health programs within the company. He spoke about this is being their first Pride Cup collaboration. The goal is to build inclusion in sport because it is good for the player’s mental and physical wellbeing. The company’s goal is to not only have sports be more inclusive but also help with men, their communities to live healthier and longer lives.
  • Marni from Pride Cup, who works as a Club and Merchandise Support Officer, shared important statistics on discrimination within sport- highlighting that up to 80% of young LGBTQIA+ people have experienced or witnessed discrimination in sporting environments. Pride Cup is working to dismantle these barriers and was proud to collaborate with both the Movember and Brunswick Lacrosse Club to create safer, more inclusive sporting spaces.
  • Kristin who is Lacrosse Victoria’s Development Officer spoke about how much this event personally meant to her. She reflected on the importance of creating spaces where people can come together to learn, celebrate, and have fun in a welcoming environment. Kristin emphasised that Pride Round is more than a symbolic gesture- it’s a powerful opportunity to build community and foster inclusion in every corner of the sport.

The speeches were held at mid-event, creating a moment of reflection and connection for players, supporters, and spectators alike.

Sunday 22nd June – MCC and Williamstown Women’s Lacrosse Clubs

Sunday continued the celebration of Pride Round with events hosted by the MCC Lacrosse Club and the Williamstown Women’s Lacrosse Club, each bringing their unique approach to promoting inclusion and visibility in lacrosse.

  • MCC Lacrosse Club hosted a powerful education session led by Rudy Jean Rigg, who spoke about the origins of Pride Cup and the importance of awareness rounds in promoting visibility, acceptance, and systemic change in sport. Their insights were both informative and inspiring, sparking meaningful discussions among attendees.
  • Williamstown Women’s Lacrosse Club held a joyful and colourful Fun Run and Bake Sale, organised by Thea. The event brought together club members, families, friends, and coaches for a day filled with celebration, positivity, and delicious treats. Thea’s goal was to create an uplifting and affirming environment for everyone involved—and she certainly delivered.

Our Ongoing Commitment

We firmly reject all forms of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and discrimination. Every person deserves to feel safe, respected, and celebrated—on and off the field.
