Footscray Lacrosse Club was buzzing with energy as it proudly hosted the 2025 LA Men’s & Women’s Field National Championships from June 4th to June 8th, welcoming 11 teams across 7 regions and clubs, including representatives from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, New Zealand, and the U20 Australian Men’s Team.
With five action-packed days of elite lacrosse and all games streamed live on the Australian Lacrosse Network, this year’s tournament brought together the best of Australian and international lacrosse talent right here in Victoria.
Day One: A Cold Start, but a Warm Welcome on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025: Despite chilly weather, teams came out red hot. The Victoria Women opened their campaign with two dominant wins – defeating New Zealand 21-2 and NSW 23-2. Later that day there was a spirited opening ceremony before the Victoria Men’s 6:30pm game. The Victoria Men keenly contested against South Australia 11-9 game.
Day Two: Sunset Showdowns on Thursday, June 5th, 2025: As the sun dipped and the stadium lights took over, both Victorian squads continued their winning ways. The Victoria Men dominated Queensland in a high-scoring 22-4 win, displaying their depth and cohesion. Shortly after, the Victorian Women delivered a hard-fought 10-6 victory over Western Australia, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
Day Three: Battling the Elements, Friday, June 6th, 2025: Cold winds and rain rolled in, but the weather did not cool Victoria’s momentum. The Victoria Women overcame the conditions with a crushing 26-1 win over Queensland, while the Victoria Men battled through the wet to secure a strong 13-7 win over Western Australia.
Day Four: Clouds Clear for a Crucial Day, Saturday, June 7th, 2025: With the clouds clearing, finals spots were on the line. The Victoria Women engaged in a nail-biter against Queensland, edging them out 7-6 win. Meanwhile, the Victoria Men faced their first and only loss, going down 8-11 to the U20 Australian Men’s Team.
Both teams, however, secured their spots in Sunday’s Championship Finals.
Day Five: Grand Final Glory & Heart: Sunday, June 8th, 2025: Championship Sunday brought determined teams and celebration of top-tier lacrosse. Victoria Women faced a strong South Australian side and finished as 2025 National Runners-Up after a hard-fought 12-6 loss. Their journey was marked by resilience and skill.
The Victoria Men stepped up in the final showdown against Western Australia, delivering a controlled and confident 13-9 win, claiming the title of 2025 National Champions. Cold and rainy conditions could not dampen their focus or execution.
A Tournament to Remember, from electric opening day to the final whistle, the 2025 LA National Championships was a tremendous success. Victoria’s teams displayed not only their talent but also their heart and determination throughout the 5 days.
