The Lacrosse Victoria community were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former LV Board member and Chadstone player, Sarah Austin.
Sarah joined the Board in April 2023 and quickly become a valued member. LV Chair Ferg Stewart recognised Sarah’s contribution:
Sarah made an immediate impact on the LV Board utilising her valuable insights as a former women’s player and professionally as a lawyer. Sarah became the Chair of our Governance Advisory Group, having an impact in updating many of our policies. Sarah will be sadly missed.
Sarah is the daughter of long time Lacrosse Victoria Administration Officer, Maureen Austin.
In Sarah’s words when applying to become a Board Member:
I was looking for an opportunity to volunteer while utilising and developing my professional skills. Joining a board, especially of a sport I have been involved in for a lot of my life, feels like a clear path to achieve that goal.
I hope to contribute to the board by using my legal background to ensure strong governance, and my personal background as a former player in the junior and women’s league to support continued growth of the sport.
Sarah worked closely with LV Development Officer, Kristen Hutchison, on developing the LV Inclusion Policy. Kristen remembered Sarah’s contribution:
I had the pleasure of working with Sarah across several governance and inclusion initiatives. Her experience and expertise made the process so smooth. For Sarah, it wasn’t just about policies and words, she lived and breathed them attending the Midsumma Pride March with me. Sarah truly gave back to the sport she loved and we are so grateful for her dedication.
A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held on Friday 12 September from 11.30 at the Williamstown Italian Social Club, 30 Garden St, Williamstown.
The Victorian Lacrosse community extends our deepest condolences to Maureen, her family and the Chadstone Lacrosse Club community.
