That's a wrap for the 2024 SSV Primary State Finals! Congratulations to all the teams who made it to the Finals!
What a glorious day at the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Primary State Finals, which were held at Fawkner Park on Friday, 29 November. 20 teams competed across 2 divisions, and it was great to see so many new teams making it to the Finals. There was tremendous improvement throughout the day. A big congratulations to all the teams from the following schools for an awesome day of lacrosse!
Beaumaris North Primary School
Hartwell Primary School
Mentone Primary School
Mount Waverley North Primary School
Newport Gardens Primary School
St Clare's Primary School, Thomastown
St Leo the Great Primary School
St Mary's Primary School, Williamstown
St Patrick's Primary School, Mentone
Wembley Primary School
Williamstown Primary School
Williamstown PS faced off against one of their rivals St Mary’s of Williamstown in the Grand Final of the All Gender Division, after both going undefeated for the day in respective pools. There was lots of back and forth throughout the game, but it was St Mary’s who came out on top, 14 – 9.
In the Girls’ Division there were 2 teams that were above all the rest! And they met in the first and the last rounds of the day! Both scoring over 90 goals for the tournament, they were in a league of their own. But in the end, St Patrick’s was just too strong for Mentone, and they pulled away 13 – 6 in the Grand Final.
To wrap up the day, we had the pleasure of Jamie Parsons, the CEO of School Sport Victoria, remind the students how great the sport of lacrosse is and particularly now that the sport is in the Olympics. We could have some of our SSV State Champions donning the Green & Gold in Los Angelos and hopefully in Brisbane 2032.
Congratulations again to all the teams who competed, and thank you to all the Teachers, Coaches, Officials, and Volunteers who helped make the day so wonderful! Hope to see everyone again next year!
