2025 State League Fixtures Announced
The highly anticipated 2025 State League fixtures have been released, setting the stage for another thrilling season of competition. In both the Men’s and Women’s divisions, teams will be looking to prove themselves from the opening round.
Men’s State League
The men's competition kicks off Saturday, May 3rd with some huge opening-round clashes, including a grand final rematch between Williamstown and Footscray. Expect intensity from the start as Williamstown looks for redemption, while Footscray aims to defend their crown.
Another key Round 1 matchup sees Brunswick take on MCC, in a Championship League Grand Final rematch, with both clubs eager to start strong. A major storyline this season will be whether either team can secure enough wins by Round 11 to make the cut for State League status.
Meanwhile, Camberwell enters the season with a point to prove. After falling agonizingly short in last year’s preliminary final to a late comeback from Footscray, they will be determined to bounce back and take that next step to a grand final appearance in 2025.
Who else has what it takes to make a SL Finals appearance this year? Only time will tell.
Women’s State League
The Women's competition kicks off on Sunday, May 4th, with an epic grand final rematch between Williamstown Women’s and Footscray Lacrosse Club. Footscray has been the benchmark for years, but Williamstown is determined to finally break the Bulldogs' dominance and claim the title for themselves.
However, dark horses are lurking. Newport, Camberwell, and Malvern will all be aiming to clinch a finals spot and challenge the league’s top teams. With plenty of rising talent and offseason work, could this season see a shake-up in the traditional pecking order?
With the fixtures locked in, teams focus on pre-season preparation, ensuring they hit the ground running in May. Whether it’s Camberwell’s redemption arc, MCC and Brunswick’s battle for survival, or a new contender emerging in the Women’s division, the 2025 State League competitions promises plenty of action.
