U12 Lightning Carnival

This past weekend across the 16th and 17th of August, held Lacrosse Victoria’s U12 Lightning Carnival for both the boy and girl’s divisions. The event was hosted at Albert Cricket Ground across both days by MCC. The Lightning Carnival celebrates youth lacrosse in a fun and faced-paced way advancing development for teams across the region.

Saturday focused on the boys with sixteen teams, where they were split into two groups, ‘Sharks’ and ‘Crocs’. Staring at 8:30, they played in a series of three matches throughout the day. 3rd to 8th of each division had the chance to play a crossover final.1st and 2nd sitting out for a bye, then played in crossover a Prelim final, to then face off in a Grand Final.

The two teams to make it to the grand final were Camberwell Zulu’s and Williamstown Deacons with Williamstown Deacons winning it overall 8 to 2.

On the Sunday it was all about the girls. With nine teams, they played a series of five games throughout the day. Following this, 5th- 8th on the ladder played in a placement final, with 1st v 4th, and 2nd v 3rd playing in a Prelim final to determine the Grand Final.

Making it to the final were Footscray White and Newport Porters with Footscray White winning it all 4 to 3.

Both mornings were lots of fun for the kids, as well as parents and spectators who came down to watch. As this was their last carnival for the year, this was a great opportunity for our U12s to get amongst the game.
