What a massive weekend recognising, honouring, and celebrating our LGBTQIA+ lacrosse members and their contributions to lacrosse!
The 2023 Lacrosse Victoria Pride Round kicked off at the Fearon Reserve on Friday, 19 May. Clubs all over Melbourne held games across the weekend, and it was great to see the teams, clubs, and spectators getting into the spirit of the Pride Round. Juniors and Seniors alike got involved with the day with the home team captains reading out the LV Pride Round Statement before each game, which can be found below.
“We’d like to welcome everyone to the 2023 Lacrosse Victoria Pride Round. Lacrosse Victoria aims to ensure the LGBTQIA+ community is safe, affirmed and welcomed in our lacrosse community.
Lacrosse Victoria believes in treating everyone with dignity, courtesy, and respect no matter what their sex, gender identity or sexuality is.
The LV Pride Round gives us the opportunity to not only champion the LGBTQIA+ communities and their contributions to lacrosse, but to also recognise there is still more work that needs to be done to ensure that lacrosse is a sport for all. While we’re celebrating today, it’s important to remember that there is zero tolerance for homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia, and that your allyship is not just needed today but every day.
Thank you so much for your support, and all the best in the Pride Match.”
The LV Pride Round provided the opportunity for clubs to support their players, coaches, volunteers, officials, and families from the LGBTQIA+ community as well as to show their local community how inclusive their club is.
