The LV Board have accepted the recommendation to postpone the 2020 start dates for both juniors and seniors, with a memo being sent out to clubs earlier today.

Junior competition will be put back two weeks to commence on the weekend of 25/26 July.

And Senior put back a week to commence on the first weekend of August (1/2)

The decision to postpone the season again was not an easy one but due to the current climate, the health and safety of members is LV’s primary concern. At least ten clubs have been impacted by the new lockdown measures as well as several students attend schools with positive cases of COVID-19.

Lacrosse Victoria will reassess the new start dates on Wednesday 15 July. These dates, are still “subject to the advice of Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and the continued management of the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), adults can resume full-contact training from 13 July and full-contact competition from 20 July.”

“The Board is disappointed to make the decision to defer the season. Our main priority is to ensure the health and safety of all participants and during this uncertain time we believe a cautious approach is necessary. The Board is confident of a resumption and look forward to when all our players are able to return to the ground and enjoy the sport they love." said Acting General Manager Michael Sholly.

Key takeaways from the postponement.

  1. The health and safety of the lacrosse community is our number one concern.

  2. A staggered start date will allow for clubs and our dedicated volunteers to put into practice the Return to Play Conditions in a less stressful environment with fewer mass gatherings.

  3. All senior players will be available to participate in Round 1.

  4. Opportunity to fixture, (where possible), the first few rounds locally to minimise travel across Melbourne.

LV encourages the entire lacrosse community to do their part in managing the spread of COVID-19. This includes but not limited to washing your hands regularly, keeping at least 1.5 metres from other people and staying home if you feel unwell. Following these guidelines will help not just as in the lacrosse community sense but also the extended community.
