Kendrea Kendall is a name well known to many in lacrosse circles, both in Victoria and Australia. Over the past 45 plus years, she represented our sport with great pride and distinction.

Over the weekend, Kendrea was posthomously awarded the Member of the Order of Australia during the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours. This is one of the highest honours a civilian can earn in Australia.

This is the 2nd time in 2020 a member of the Victorian lacrosse community has earned a place on this prestigious list. For the January 2020 Australia Day Honours, Newport Ladies Lacrosse Club's Sue Sofarnos was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). In 2015, Caulfield's Sue McSolvin and the late Bob Russell, from Eltham, were also awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

Eltham President Owyne Zobel said, "What a fantastic culmination of recognition of all Kendrea’s achievements in and for the Victorian lacrosse community and Eltham Lacrosse Club."

Kendrea’s achievements and accolades in lacrosse are almost unrivalled. She truely reached the pinnacle as a player, a coach/selector, an administrator and a club person.

From an early age, Kendrea began playing at the Footscray Lacrosse Club. After several successful years playing out in the West, she helped establish the Montmorency Women’s Lacrosse Club. After a few years, Montmorency merged with Eltham, which kick started the Women’s arm of the Eltham Lacrosse Club.

Zobel added, "Kendra was a much loved and respected member of the Lacrosse Community as a whole and a stalwart, friendly face anybody could talk to or ask a lacrosse related question of and she would have an answer for you. Her contribution to Eltham was such that it is almost too much to put into a few simple words as she was so much more than a player, coach, mentor, supporter, president, secretary or Life Member."

Some of Kendrea’s most significant achievements and accolades were:

Life Member Women’s Lacrosse Association (VWLA) – 1985
Life Member Eltham Lacrosse Club – 1989
Lacrosse Victoria Nell Rawlins Award recipient (for outstanding achievement on and off the field) – 1976 & 1984. Remains one of only two dual winners.
Founder – Montmorency Women’s Lacrosse Club, 1974 (which merged with Eltham Lacrosse Club in 1980, starting their Women’s program).
Australian Women’s Team 1969 & 1972
Victorian State Women’s Team - 1964, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 73
President - Women’s Lacrosse Victoria (WLV) 1976 & 1987
Secretary - Women’s Lacrosse Victoria (WLV) 1977
Director - Lacrosse Victoria 2008 – 2010
President – Eltham Lacrosse Club (2000-2003)
Commissioner – Lacrosse Victoria 2014 – 2019
Australian Team Selector
Chairman of Selectors in the 1986 World Championships
Victorian State Team Selector

Interim Lacrosse Victoria Board Chair Theo Kwas said, "The Victorian lacrosse community is blessed with some amazing people. Kendrea's service to the game and the greater lacrosse community was remarkable. Her legacy will continue to live on for many years to come."
Congratulations to the Kendall family and Eltham Lacrosse Club!
