The Australian lacrosse community will descend on Footscray Lacrosse Club this week with the start of the Senior National Championships less than 24 hours away.

The 2019 Senior Victorian Teams enter the National Tournament with very high hopes and expectations.

The Senior Women's Team with Head Coach Sue Sofarnos look to come back strong after a tough defeat in Perth in 2018. The team is loaded with talent and Sue has brought on a great staff to help her lead the team.

Sue McSolvin is her number one Assistant. Sue is no stranger to the Victorian squad having led numerous teams to National Championships. You would be hard pressed to find a more decorated coaching staff in any sport!

Also joining the Sue tandem are Adam Joffe and Mark Smythe. Adam is a physiotherapist who has been a massive asset to the squad for on field preparation while Mark has been leading the strength and conditioning side of the team.

Roz Lambert is the team manager and she has done an phenomenal job behind the scenes making sure the team can focus all attention on the games and practices.

They kick off the tournament with a rematch of the 2018 Grand Final vs. Western Australia at 11:45 on Wednesday at Footscray Lacrosse Club.

The Victorian Men's Team is led again by Greg Mollison. This team has faced some significant adversity with the death of Alan Lewer. Alan was back for another Assistant Coaching role for a Victorian side. Alan will be missed by the entire community. Tributes flowed in from across the globe and the players will certainly have him in mind each time they step on the field this week!

Also on staff are Terry Sparks and Darren Gibson. While Terry and Darren focus on the opposite ends of the field, the both bring a wealth of knowledge to the sideline with extensive experience as players and coaches.

Rod Maher is managing the team and has also done a great job allowing the team to focus on the playing field.

The Senior Men kick off their quest for 4 consecutive titles on Thursday morning at 11:30 vs. Western Australia.

Stay tuned to the Lacrosse Victoria social media pages as we get going through the week. Good luck to both teams!
