ALRA’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Day
ALRA’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Day

Finals are back, and so is ALRA’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Day. Though this year, it’s not just one day, but two! As excitingly the officials of the Ladies game have decided to stand stripe to stripe with their fellow Zebra’s to promote and support this cause.

On Preliminary Final Day at Caulfield Lacrosse Club (Ladies) and Surrey Park Lacrosse Club (Men’s) the Officials will swap their stripes for blue shirts and once again team up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) to raise funds to:

  • Provide research into prostate cancer
  • Implement educational programs around prostate cancer
  • Support men and their families affected by prostate cancer

In the first two years of running this event, ALRA have raised in excess of $6,000 for PCFA, all thanks to your kind and generous donations.

Once again, representatives from PCFA will, on the day, be available to provide information and educational resources to the public and all supporters of lacrosse are encouraged to dig deep and donate to this worthy cause by donating to;

Prostate Cancer (PC) Facts

  • PC is now the No 1 diagnosed cancer in Australian men and no 2 in mortality.
  • Each year approx. 20,000 men are diagnosed, with approx. 3,300 succumbing to the disease.
  • It is estimated that, by age 75, 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with PC, whilst at age 85 this risk increases to 1 in 5.
  • If detected early, PC has one of the highest 5-year survival rate after diagnosis (approx. 92%)
  • The prevalence of a family history of PC increases the risk of a positive diagnosis by 2-3 times. It is suggested that men should commence talking to their GP about PC testing from the age of 40.
