Eltham Lacrosse Club enjoyed a spectacular club day on Saturday, with sunshine and crisp clear air greeting players and guests to Lower Eltham Park.

With all the club’s games played at home this week, it was an opportunity for all players to stay and watch other teams.

The five junior games were a mixed affair with a draw, two wins and two losses.

The senior men’s games started with the Division 3 match where Eltham took out a convincing win against MCC, 13-3.

The Division 1 side followed but went down to Altona 13-8.

In a pivotal match for the State League side, Eltham needed to win against Footscray to secure a spot in the top four.

But, the Panthers went down 14-8 and face the difficult task of needing four straight wins over the next month to gain a finals berth.

However, the disappointment of those results were eclipsed by the outstanding atmosphere of the day and the special tribute paid to club’s founder, recent OAM recipient Bob Russell.

On Saturday night, a number of wonderful reflections on Russell’s contributions to the club and community were shared at a special gathering.

PANTHERS TO FLY THE FLAG AT WORLD TITLES

One of the highlights of Saturday’s big club day at Eltham was the honouring of five of the club’s national representatives.

Jenny Macklin, the state member for Jagajaga, presented Australian flags to the Eltham players selected to represent the country at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in the United States in September: Jai Arambatzis, Keith Nyberg, Wade Hammond, Tim Ratje and Caleb Hall.
