After heavy rain throughout the night, the playing fields were soft and muddy for Round 3 and the conditions were not conducive to a high standard of lacrosse, but rather a hard slog.

Round 4 - June 8

After a great deal of hard work the grounds were prepared as best as possible for the final day of the Senior Nationals and it was a credit to the Footscray workers that the grounds although very soft, were in a fair condition for both sides and the weather put on the best day of the Championships.

Results Women:

West Australia 12  def.   New Zealand  5

MVP’s: Alana Mckinlay (WA)

Women Gold Medal Game:

Victoria jumped out at the start determined to put their stamp of authority on the contest right from the start, South Australia were content to slow the play and hold possession. The Vics were able to finish the half  a couple of  goals ahead with SA making it a close, tight  game. With Victoria controlling the game after half time, midway through  the second half SA made a Go for Gold with a couple of goals in quick succession, but the Victorian team was able to steady and score some late goals to win the Gold Medal game for Victoria.

Final Score: Victoria 12  def.  South Australia  8

MVP’s:  Lyndsey  Paton (VIC) & Isabelle Pickett (SA)

2013 Vic Women v SA2013 Senior Vic Women v SA, Macca

Congratulations to the successful Women's State Team who were able to win the 2013 National Championship last week defeating South Australia in a hard fought Final. This in many ways was a just reward for Coach Jason Simpson who did such a great job coaching a young and very much a development squad last year.

Men Gold Medal Game:

After a nervous start to the game Victoria finished the First Quarter with a narrow lead and from there Western Australia took control of the game and were never headed. With Victoria only able to score three times  in the remaining 3 quarters, the defence held on grimly but in the final term were unable to stop the Western Australians from running out deserved winners.

Final Score: Western Australia 11  def.  Victoria  6

MVP's: Tim Stoner (WA) & Sam Marquard (VIC)

Although it was disappointing to lose the final game for the second year running, there is merit in reaching the final and it makes next years Championship a little bit more interesting as each State has been successful over  the last 3 years and no one able to win the Championship on home soil.
