2012 U18 Grand Final Review
Williamstown U18s celebrating their grand final win
Lynne Pike, Williamstown Lacrosse Club
The U18 Grand Final was a magnificent match between two very good teams. Williamstown had the first goal on the board but the Supremes hit back with three of their own making the score level at quarter time (3 v 3). The second quarter saw both teams attacking the goal with some great play around goal and strong defence at both ends.
The teams traded blows with Williamstown leading by a goal at half time (7 v 6). The Supremes jumped out of the blocks in the third quarter and had a three goal lead when Williamstown pegged one back right on the siren.
The Supremes, with all the momentum going into the final term had a 2 goal advantage (9 v 11). Williamstown were not to be denied, they controlled the ball for long periods in the final term and scored the first three goals to take a 1 goal advantage. The Supremes fought back and scores were level again after Luca Lettieri scored a magnificent goal in the top corner.
With five minutes to go a goal by Toby Exton gave the Supremes the advantage. Both teams were working hard to take control and with 2 minutes to go Williamstown scored in a Man–up to make the scores level again. With 43 seconds left on the clock the tie was broken by Williamstown’s Sean Clark (14 v 13).
The midfield players dominated the game with Luca Lettieri (6), Angus Pritchard-Thompson (3) and Toby Exton (2) dominating for the Supremes whilst Williamstown’s major contributors were Alex Pike (7), Noah Jenney (3) & Mitch Quarrier (3).
