Aaron Currie may be 12, but he has been chosen to represent Victoria at October's Under 15 National Lacrosse Championships.
The Narre Warren lad was one of six members of the Malvern Knights to get the nod by selectors. Aaron began playing at age eight. He probably caught the bug from dad Brad, who started playing lacrosse in primary school. Brad also happens to be the Malvern Lacrosse Club's president and still lines up for Malvern State League Division 1 side.
"It's just something that Aaron's been brought up with," proud mum Leanne, who plays for Malvern's B Grade women's team. said. Aaron regularly plays for Malvern's Under 14 Reds side. Last week he lined up for Malvern's undefeated Under 16 team and as a midfielder scored two goals in Malvern's 18-1 demolition of Melbourne High School. Aaron dreams of playing college lacrosse in the US after he finishes high school and his mum is all for it.
"He's got the dream and I think he'll do everything possible to achieve it." Mrs Currie said. I always tell him to have his heart in the game to go as hard as he can." The U15 National Lacrosse Championships will be held October 1-7 at the Footscray Lacrosse Club.
AARON Currie is this week's leader Sports star nominee.
