Sporting Act of the Month Award - May

Lacrosse Victoria is pleased to announce the Williamstown Lacrosse Club's Wayne Butson as the winner of the Sporting Act of the Month Award for May.

Wayne was nominated by Rhys Shobbrook for displaying exemplary sportsmanship in the recent Division 3 match between Williamstown and Melbourne University.

The Melbourne University team were low on numbers and Wayne arranged for three Williamstown players to play with Melbourne University. These players were fantastic mentors for the mostly new Melbourne University players. The Melbourne University goalkeeper, Ocean, was particularly stoked to be able to play with ex-Australian goalkeeper Scott Garnsworthy.

The game was played in great spirits and despite the rain was a lot of fun. Lacrosse Victoria would like to recognise Wayne for growing the game with good sportsmanship!

Wayne will receive a $50 award from Lacrosse Victoria and they're now shortlisted for the $200 Sporting Act of the Year Award, which will be presented at the Lacrosse Victoria Presentation Night later this year.

Please join us in congratulating Wayne on his outstanding contribution to sportsmanship and Lacrosse.

We know these are not isolated incidents and encourage all clubs and individuals to send through nominations to when they see similar acts so we can reward and recognise those involved and highlight all that is good about the great game of lacrosse.
