Sporting Act of the Month Award Winners - July-August

Lacrosse Victoria is pleased to announce Caryn Cramp and Kathleen Leach of the Eltham Lacrosse Club and Rocharne (Sharni) Brady of the Newport Ladies Lacrosse Club as the winners of the Lacrosse Victoria Sporting Act of the Month Award for July and August.

Caryn and Kathleen were nominated for the June award for the selflessness they displayed during a recent round of matches played on a freezing and wet Sunday.

Whilst everyone else was either getting ready to play or sitting around the fire in the clubrooms, Caryn and Kathleen were out braving the elements ensuring shelters and scoreboards were in place.

While this behaviour is replicated across our grounds by our multitude of volunteers it is often overlooked. Therefore it gives us great pleasure to recognise Caryn and Kathleen for their efforts and through them to say thanks to all our volunteers.

Rocharne receives August’s award for her positiveness and selflessness in her support of the Australian U/19 Women’s team during the recent FIL U/19 Women’s World Cup.

Despite the disappointment of suffering a campaign ending knee injury just weeks before the event, Rocharne was able to look past her own disappointment and focus her efforts on supporting her teammates throughout the tournament.

Her efforts were recognised by the FIL who awarded her their “Heart of Lacrosse” award for being “a great example of a truly selfless athlete, constantly putting the teams needs ahead of her own”

Caryn, Kathleen and Rocharne will receive a $50 award from Lacrosse Victoria and are now shortlisted for the $200 Sporting Act of the Year Award to be presented at the Lacrosse Victoria Presentation Night on September 18th

We know these are not isolated incidents and we encourage all clubs and individuals to send through nominations to secretary@lacrossevictoria.com.au when they see similar acts so we can reward and recognise those involved and highlight all that is good about the great game of lacrosse.
