Lacrosse Victoria is pleased to announce Chris Plumb of the Footscray Lacrosse Club and Bernard and Liz MacDonald of the Altona Lacrosse Club as the inaugural winners of our Sporting Act of the Month Award (April and May).

Chris was nominated for the April award by Malvern Lacrosse Club for the goodwill and sportsmanship he showed during the round 1 clash between the Footscray and Malvern/MCC U/17 teams.

With the game poised to start and Malvern/MCC only having 8 players at the ground Chris agreed to start the game with only 8 Footscray players on the field despite having the full complement of 10 available.

Even when additional players became available for Malvern/MCC, Chris refused the offer to move to 10 on 10 as he felt this would be unfair to Malvern/MCC as his players had enjoyed the benefit of being able to rest throughout the first half.

The result was a great lacrosse experience for all involved, including players, coaches and spectators alike.

Incidentally the game ended in a 9 – 8 win to Footscray.

Bernard and Liz MacDonald have been nominated by the Altona Lacrosse Club for their work in establishing the Hoppers Crossing U11 Lacrosse team.

At a time when it is easy to look internally, Bernard and Liz have worked tirelessly with the new parents and children to take our great game to a new market.

This has been achieved by ensuring all participants have enjoyed a balanced lacrosse experience that emphasises fun whilst learning the basics of the sport.

The result has seen a new team of players, parents and supporters, previously unexposed to lacrosse enjoy our great game, and a footprint in a new emerging market that we can build upon to grow the sport.

Both Chris, and Bernard and Liz, will receive a $50 award from Lacrosse Victoria and are now shortlisted for the $200 Sporting Act of the Year Award to be presented at the Lacrosse Victoria Presentation Night later this year.

Please join us in congratulating them on their outstanding contributions to sportsmanship and Lacrosse.

We also know these are not isolated incidents and we encourage all clubs and individuals to send through nominations to when they see similar acts so we can reward and recognise those involved and highlight all that is good about the great game of lacrosse.
