The 2012 National Indoor Championships were held at the Westgate Sports centre on December 1st-2nd with teams from South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and a Presidents team.
It was great to have a keen bunch of guys from Sydney come down and compete in the event; their presence was greatly appreciated and added to the National experience. A couple of players helped NSW out caused by a lack of numbers in the team. Considering that NSW is very much in a development stage no big numbers were to be expected, but again their presence helped to give it a National feel.
After some keenly contested matches, the National Final was played out between Victoria and South Australia, with Victoria winning the game 13-9.
It was great to see National Coach, Ric Benedierks mentoring Wade Hammond as Victorian Coach this year. Wade did a great job handling the team; all in all it was a great team effort by all players. The team had a number of young players representing the state for the first time in a Senior National Indoor Championship and they seemed to benefit from it and enjoy the whole experience.
South Australia, again with a number of International players, had a good Championship and will benefit from the competition and look forward to improving for next year.
The 2012 spring season of Victorian Indoor lacrosse consisted of 4 teams, drawn by a draft system, to enable the competition to be as even and challenging as possible.
The teams consisted of players from the last International Indoor Team, State Players, seniors and interested juniors.
After a competitive 9 week season the finals were played out at the Westgate Sports centre on Thursday December 6, 2012 with Storm taking out the final against Thunder, with Fury and Rage taking out the minor placing.
All players enjoyed the experience and the standard of play increased over the competition.

It is expected that the 2013 season will take off from where 2012 left off and Women and junior sections are planned to be included in the spring season.

2012 saw Lacrosse Victoria hold our usual Middle and Junior Secondary School competitions and for the first time our Primary School competition was held over 2 venues on the East and West sides of the city.

Middle School Competition
In September the Middle School competition was held at Altona and for the second year Maribyrnong College were the winners, this year taking out the Girls and Boys competitions, again a team from Bendigo Secondary College made the trip down and put in a great effort, finding the going tough against more experienced opposition. There is promise of a couple of the boys continuing in the sport for the Senior Bendigo club next year, a great result for the Regional Club.

Junior School Competition
In early November the Junior Secondary competition was held at the Hobson’s Bay Civic Centre grounds and with Williamstown High School running out convincing winners in the Boys Division, it was Mt. Saint Joseph Girls College winning the Girls Division by the barest of margins, with Northcote H.S. putting up a creditable effort in their second year of competition in both girls and boys divisions.

Western Primary School Competition
For the second year in a row, due to the numbers of schools entered, the competition was divided into 2 divisions, White and Blue and we welcomed a few new schools from the area, including Sunbury for the first time and for the third year in a row Eaglehawk North from Bendigo made the long trip, determined to give the competition a real shake.
In the Blue Division the girls from St. Mary’s Williamstown and the boys from Williamstown Primary proved to be the leaders throughout the day and played well to take out the finals.
In the White Division the girls from Williamstown Primary and the boys from Eaglehawk North both played out hard fought games to take out the finals in their competition.

Eastern Primary School Competition
For the first time we held an Eastern Competition in an effort to make the day more accessible for schools in the Eastern side of the city and as well as the winners of the Boronia District Finals we welcomed Donburn Primary for the first time and with the experienced gained over the day, the children proved to be very competitive and all enjoyed the experience.
In the girls final Kent Park took out the title after a close game and in the boys section Waverley C.C. took out a close final against rivals Mountain Gate.
Many thanks must go to Knox Lacrosse Club for their hospitality in hosting this event, for our smallest club, a job well done and much appreciated.

2013 School Competitions
The competitions for 2013 have been set and will be circulated through the schools via the Schools Sports of Victoria mail out in February.
