Welcome to all teams participating in this year's U12 Lightning Carnival, including the new entrants from the eastern suburbs I Play Lax Friday night competition.  Last year the competition was red hot in the two divisions, in the end it was Malvern and MCC who took home the coveted Lightning Carnival pennants -- who will it be this year?

Information on the U12 Lightning Carnival was posted a couple of weeks ago, including bulletin with details of the format and rules.

One change from this information is that we've moved the start time forward from 9:30 to 9:00 am.  This is so we can finish by 12:30 instead of 1:00 pm for all those who have final round of senior mens games all over town at 2:30 pm.

The early start means teams with games in the first round will need to be arriving between 8:30 and 8:45 to get themselves organised and warmed up, given that close-by parking will be hard to find once everyone starts to arrive.  Briefing for team representatives will be held at 8:45. Games will commence at 9:00 sharp.

This year's Lightning Carnival will be run in 3 Divisions: Sharks, Crocodiles and Kangaroos, with 8/6/6 teams respectively.  Fixtures are up on SPulse for these three divisions.  More detailed fixtures are in the attached spreadsheet.

The Sharks division will run on Grounds 1 & 2 (Ground numbering goes from the High St end to the duck ponds end), as per last year, except that the A and B round-robin pools will alternate on the two grounds for the first 6 time slots, then there will be 2 timeslots of crossover prelim rounds, followed by the 4 finals games.

The Crocs and Kangas will run on Grounds 3, 4, 5.  In these divisions the games don't alternate as regularly for each team, but every team gets to play 4 of the 5 other teams in the round-robin and prelim rounds, then they play off in the finals.

At this stage there's one spare Wild Card slot available in the Kangaroos division, the division of the entry-level and younger teams.  This could be taken by club teams from existing U12 Mixed competition splitting into an extra team for the 6-player format, as Malvern has done, or a team from the U11 Girls may wish to participate.  Please contact us if you have a team interested in taking this last available place.  If no other team enters, a full 5-team fixture for the Kangaroos division has also been made up which doesn't involve teams missing any games.

Each team will need to fill out and sign a single ground report form covering all the grounds they will be playing on during the tournament, and hand this to the organisers, or send to LV as per usual.  Referee payments will be credited for one game's referee payment per team, based on signing of the scoresheets by accredited ref for each team.

As per last year, game scores will be posted to SPulse after the carnival; clubs will be able to enter stats from their scoresheets as per normal, but team stats for carnival games will be optional, not mandatory.

Please contact us if you have any questions.  Looking forward to a great time next Saturday!
